Handmade 3D Paper-Cut Painting of Nine Fish and Lotus

Chinese traditional flower, bird, fish and insect themed artwork integrates lotus flowers and koi carp into one whole, presenting a perfect harmony of animals and plants, while carrying beautiful auspicious implied meanings。

In Chinese culture, the number "nine" is a highly auspicious symbol, representing completeness and perfection. Its connotation is derived from the "Nine Blessings" in *The Book of Songs*, signifying stability like a mountain, tenderness like a river, vitality like plants and trees, permanence like the bright moon, prosperity like the rising sun, boundless blessings like heaven, breadth like the earth, and vigor like pine and cypress. It also embodies the Chinese people's yearning and expectation for a better life, including longevity, wealth, peace, virtue and prosperity. The character "fish" is homophonic with "surplus" in Chinese, implying surplus year after year and prosperity with abundance. When creating this artwork, the artist deliberately depicted nine small fish swimming upward, embodying the good wishes of striving for progress, endless vitality and lasting good fortune. Below the fish are elaborate water ripples; as "water brings wealth", the rolling water ripples symbolize a steady and endless flow of wealth. The overall picture takes cool blue and purple tones as the background, setting off the tenderness and purity of the lotus flowers, making the flowers more three-dimensional and translucent. The petals unfold layer by layer, as if trembling gently in the faint light. The interweaving of light and shadow is like a beam of light rising from the water, which is the artistic realm of "the unity of emptiness and reality with proper balance", and also contains the great wisdom of "contentment brings joy". Therefore, the light and shadow lotus implies that good things and hope are quietly coming to the home; the two unopened flower buds dotted around symbolize continuous good luck and endless vitality.

In the entire Nine Fish Painting, the fish are painted in red and gold tones, symbolizing a house filled with gold and jade. In summary, this artwork not only contains the unique oriental charm of lotus, but also restores the elegant artistic conception of ink painting through paper-cutting techniques, truly realizing "embedding beauty in objects and hiding blessings in forms". It wishes all friends who bring this artwork home to live a smooth and prosperous life, just like fish in water.
